We must take a hard look at our current gun laws and make the necessary changes to ensure that guns are not falling into the wrong hands.
First and foremost, we need to strengthen background checks to ensure that those who are prohibited from owning firearms are not able to purchase them. This includes closing loopholes such as the gun show and private sale exemptions that allow individuals to buy guns without undergoing a background check. We must also ensure that our background check system is adequately funded and staffed to properly conduct these checks.
Additionally, we need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, which have been used in many of the deadliest mass shootings in our country's history. These weapons have no place in civilian hands and serve no legitimate purpose other than to cause mass carnage.
